ABOUT US

Agro-coastal research and development organization (ACORDO) is a registered non- political, non- governmental and non-profit making organization based in Mogadishu and operates across Somalia and it has operation offices in federal members-states (FMS).

This Organization was Established in 2007 It was renew in 2019 by a group of Somali youth philanthropists who are concerned with awkward situation of the Somali society in Somalia as well the entire world responding to humanitarian needs. It acknowledges that whereas the many incidences of poverty in the community affect women, children as well youth as the potential members of the society and in effect deny them the basic human rights. In turn, the problem of poverty exacerbates the risk of entrenching marginalization, exclusion and subordination in the society.

ACORDO’s thematic programs includes Food security & livelihood, Agricultural & livestock empowerment, Education, Health and Nutrition, Women and Children empowerment, Environmental management and governance with a focus on human rights, access to justice, General protections, of the vulnerable communities an individual’s especially IDPs, people with disabilities (PWD), refugees and returnees, as  well as peace building and reconciliation, community resilience.

ACORDO- focus on Community physical infrastructures such as Community Centers and Civic Buildings, public service centers, orphanage centers and etc.

ACORDO envisions a future where coastal communities thrive through resilient agricultural practices and sustainable coastal resource management and to be an excellent humanitarian agency for sustainable social, economic, and political development integrating fundamental human rights and values and to minimize displacement and illegal migration through improvement of social livelihood .

Our Core Goals

  • Sustainable Agricultural Practices: ACORDO aims to promote and develop sustainable agricultural practices in coastal areas. This includes researching and implementing innovative farming techniques, crop diversification, and soil and water management strategies that enhance productivity while minimizing negative environmental impacts.
  • Coastal Resource Management: ACORDO is committed to the sustainable management of coastal resources. It focuses on studying and implementing practices that ensure the conservation and restoration of coastal ecosystems, including mangroves, coral reefs, and wetlands, to protect biodiversity, enhance resilience, and support livelihoods dependent on coastal resources.
  • Climate Change Adaptation: ACORDO recognizes the importance of addressing the challenges posed by climate change in coastal areas. It aims to develop and promote climate change adaptation strategies that help communities and ecosystems withstand the impacts of environmental changes, such as rising sea levels, increased storm intensity, and changing rainfall patterns.
  • Community Empowerment: ACORDO places a strong emphasis on community engagement and empowerment. It works closely with local communities, involving them in the research process, capacity building, and decision-making. ACORDO strives to empower communities to actively participate in the management and sustainable use of coastal resources, enhancing their resilience, livelihoods, and overall well-being.
  • Knowledge Dissemination and Collaboration: ACORDO seeks to generate and disseminate scientific knowledge and best practices related to agro-coastal systems. It aims to bridge the gap between scientific research and local knowledge, facilitating the exchange of ideas and collaboration among researchers, practitioners, policymakers, and communities to foster learning and innovation.
  • Policy Advocacy: ACORDO aspires to influence policies and practices at various levels to support sustainable coastal development. It engages with policymakers, government agencies, and stakeholders to advocate for evidence-based policies that prioritize the sustainable management of coastal resources, promote resilient agriculture, and address the needs of coastal communities.
  • Capacity Building: ACORDO is dedicated to building the capacity of individuals, organizations, and communities working in agro-coastal systems. It provides training programs, workshops, and knowledge-sharing platforms to enhance the skills and capabilities of stakeholders involved in agriculture, fisheries, and coastal resource management.
